Service Project: AFSCME Stepping Up for Rosie’s Place

f t e +

This year we will be sharing our AFSCME generosity with Rosie’s Place. Founded in 1974 in Boston’s South End, Rosie’s Place was the first women-only shelter in the United States. Today, it’s much more than a homeless shelter or a place to get a hot meal. It’s a place where women and their children can receive health and wellness services, English language or computer literacy classes, and feel empowered to move forward in their lives.

“We’re pleased to partner with AFSCME during its convention in Boston,” said Katie Amoro, Development Officer at Rosie’s Place. “The toiletries collected will enable us to provide much-needed basic necessities to the 12,000 poor and homeless women who visit us each year. AFSCME’s support will make a tremendous impact!”

Whether you’re bringing items from home, or purchasing them while in Boston, these items — toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, mouthwash — will go a long way towards fostering a sense of normalcy to the guests of Rosie’s place.
