AFSCME delegates and alternates from across the country will meet at our union’s 43rd International Convention this summer at a crucial time in our history. The current moment poses great challenges but also offers important opportunities.
The stakes are high. Over the last few years, AFSCME has succeeded in fending off unprecedented attacks while reinvigorating our union from the inside out and the bottom up. We have reengaged with our AFSCME sisters and brothers one-on-one to build a culture of activism that has led to legislative, political and organizing victories. AFSCME Strong has given local leaders the strategies and tools to thrive in any political environment, including right to work.
But we cannot let up. It’s time to “Rise Up” and take AFSCME Strong to the next level.
Members at this year’s convention will have the opportunity to be part of the first graduating class of the AFSCME “Rise Up” Institute. The institute will offer advanced training to give activists the tools they need to successfully build power, advocate for working families, and communicate in 2018 and beyond.
Delegates and alternates can sign up for the AFSCME “Rise Up” Institute during registration.
This year, we need to be smarter and more strategic than ever. We need to show greater courage and confidence, both in our core values and in the program we’ve created to put those principles into practice.
We need to “Rise Up.”
